Just before Christmas Woodchurch High School played host to approximately 20 elderly people from St Josephs' Upton.
Sainsbury’s, Upton kindly provided the Turkey which Year 11 GCSE Catering pupils used to prepare and cook a delicious three course Christmas lunch. The lunch included:
Fresh orange juice; Roast Turkey with all the trimmings; Christmas Pudding served with vanilla ice cream. This was followed by tea or coffee and after eight mints.
In the morning several catering pupils worked hard preparing and cooking the food whilst others decorated the tables with Christmas tablecloths, flowers, crackers and table confetti. In the afternoon the pupils greeted their guests and escorted them to the tables. Once everyone was seated the school choir and brass band entertained our guests with beautiful Christmas carols and traditional Christmas music. After the choir had finished singing it was time to serve the food. It was wonderful to see the pupils putting their waiting skills into practise and conversing with our guests. At the end of the meal each guest was presented with a Christmas card, designed by a pupil and reproduced by the Art department along with some home made shortbread and mince pies. When everything had been cleared away the pupils entertained our guests by playing bingo and talking about the new school. Several of our visitors recounted tales of their time at school and it was wonderful to see both young and old laughing and chatting together. All too soon it was time for our guests to leave. It was a lovely day and one that the pupils and visitors will remember for years to come.
