On Wednesday 16th November, Janet Holmes from the Wilfred Owen Story in Birkenhead came into Woodchurch to give a presentation to Year 9. This year group is currently following a learning programme on War and Conflict - analysing both fiction and non-fiction texts. Wilfred Owen is one of the war poets they will study at GCSE and they have already been introduced to 'Dulce et Decorum est' and 'Disabled'. Janet gave an insightful overview of Owen's childhood and how his parents brought him to Birkenhead when they had to sell their house in Shrewsbury. This will enable pupils to write about Owen's work with a greater understanding of the life he led up until his untimely death a week before the Armistice of 1918.
