Visit to Wirral Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted
On Wednesday 9th November one of the Year 9 BTEC Health and Social Care classes and Ms Oldham spent an afternoon visiting Wirral Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted in Birkenhead Park.
This is a small local charity that support people with visual impairment, providing equipment to buy, borrow and use, as well as activities such as Art, Sculpture and ICT, and advice and support.
As part of their BTEC course, the group has been studying about alternative forms of communication for individuals with specific needs. The visit helped them develop their understanding of what visual impairment is like (by using simulation spectacles), the support available and the importance of this support to service users.
We have invited Lynne Sedgwick, Development and Fundraising Officer, to join us at our Christmas Fair, and, in this way and others, we hope to help Wirral Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted continue its excellent work.
