On Tuesday 11 October five of our pupils represented school at the Wirral Youth Voice Conference. They were the Year 9 and 10 members of School Council: Matthew, Rebekah, Rowan, Finn and Andrew. Accompanied by Learning Mentors Gaynor Baker and Lynn Rule, the pupils spent the day at Wallasey Town Hall attending the conference which was entitled Speak Your Mind and concerned the mental health of young people. They met pupils from other schools and discussed issues with council staff and representatives of a number of local companies.
During the day, there were a range of workshops on topics such as Myths and Stereotypes about Mental Health, Dealing with Stress and Support available. In the afternoon some of our pupils presented a motion for debate in the Council Chamber. It concerned the importance of young people being able to access a range of clubs and activities that would help their mental wellbeing. The motion was unanimously agreed. Well done to Matthew and Rebekah who presented it.
The pupils and staff who attended the event will shortly be reporting back to Ms Phillips and Mr Smith, who will decide on actions that school can put in place to help all pupils with their mental wellbeing.
