Following a recent audit of our Careers Education and Guidance we are pleased that we have been awarded the first stage of the Inspiring IAG award.
The school is now working on stage 2.
This award validates the excellent opportunities that pupils are given at school to help prepare them for the next stage in their lives.
Individual interviews with trained careers councillors are available each week for most the year for pupils from Year 7 through to Year 11. We also offer focussed group sessions, career guidance in AEN reviews (as requested) and invite people in from local businesses to speak to pupils.
Two large events during the year we offer to pupils in Year 11 is the Careers Workshop, where members of the Rotary Club of Birkenhead come and support, and our Year 9-11 Careers Fayre where over 50 Post-16 providers and businesses come advertising their requirements and offering career advice.
We have regular drop-in sessions at lunch time by guests from Post 16 providers, a large careers library where pupils can find application forms, prospectuses and information about the local job market including what qualifications are needed to support pupils in achieving their goals.
We are also pleased to be beginning to work with some KeyStage 3 pupils this year in an employer-led workshop, helping pupils develop the skills they need to be successful in their working lives.
Pupils also have access to support on a range of ICT programmes, Work Experience, Drop Down days and Enterprise Days.
