Over the past few weeks we have been delighted to welcome Diversity Role Models, a small national charity in conjunction with the Brook to run a series of workshops with every Year 8 form. The purpose of the workshops has been to give pupils the opportunity to reflect on and discuss issues relating to the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community.
The workshops were thought provoking and the presenters were extremely impressed with the way pupils approached them, and their keenness to contribute to the discussions. One part that the pupils found particularly interesting was the role models' personal stories.
In every case by the end of the workshop there had been a significant change in pupils' attitudes, which is excellent as this will help us become a more LGBT friendly community which will, in turn, ensure that all pupils feel safe and comfortable in school.
