This is held every year on 5 June and is celebrated not just in this country, but across the world. On 5 June Mark Grimshaw, catering manager for Absolutely Catering organised a number of different activities. The day before, the Eco Committee had arranged for all Year 7 and 8 pupils to get a World Environment Day quiz. This was to test their knowledge about the day, and the prize was an iTunes voucher.
On Friday 5th eight Year 7 and 8 pupils from the Eco Committee prepared a display encouraging people to reuse plastic carrier bags. They worked really well and the stunning display was shown at lunchtime.
Over 200 pupils entered the competition and as there were 5 winning entries there had to be a tiebreaker. The pupils who got to this stage were: Samantha, Aimee, Ellie, Liam and Georgia. Mark had to run a tie-breaker to decide the eventual winner. This consisted of estimating the number of plastic carrier bags used in the UK every year ( a shocking 8.3 billion a year) and writing about how reusing plastic bags helps the environment. The eventual winner was Liam who won a 15 I Tunes voucher. Well done Liam!
