On Tuesday 23rd March, Mrs Janikiewicz hosted a Burns Supper with the help of Mrs Bush’s Year 11 GCSE Catering class. The occasion began with Mrs Bennett giving a traditional Scottish greeting and pupils enjoyed ‘cock-a-leekie’ soup, haggis, red cola and traditionally cooked vegetable side dishes. The haggis was saluted and some of Mrs Janikiewicz’s English class read ‘To a Mouse.’ Written in Scots dialect, this is a significant poem for them because Burns’ poem links to their GCSE English Literature lessons on John Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men.’
