As part of all Health and Social Care, and Child Development courses pupils have the opportunity to look after a Real-Life baby that acts just like a newborn baby. Pupils are trained in how to care for the babies by a member of staff from the NHS Livewell programme. They then have the babies from Thursday to Sunday, with sole responsibility for feeding, nappy changes, winding and comforting.

It is a demanding experience which gives pupils the chance to develop their parenting skills. Afterwards each pupil receives a print out that analyses the quality of care they gave their baby. The girls in the picture are looking keen at the prospect of looking after their babies, but how will they manage after a few sleepless nights?
