On the 14th November 14 year 9 and 10 Engineers attended the World Rally GB event in Wales. They had won a place on this unique event by submitting coursework based on Sustainable Materials and Renewable energies as part of their Engineering GCSE coursework. As part of this Engineering opportunities event sponsored by large companies such as JCB, Airbus, Toyota, DRB and Lego the pupils also had an opportunity to meet and access advice on careers in Engineering through the Institute of Engineering Technology and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, as well as meeting with further education colleges and Universities.
The pupils followed a prescribed day of activities such as tours of the Rally maintenance and design parks where they had the opportunity to get up close with the Engineers and cars from companies such as VW, Vauxhall, Audi and Ford. They also had the opportunity to carry out Science Technology Engineering and Manufacturing activities throughout the day organised by STEM Wales and the North West as well as a unique insight into how engines are manufactured at the Toyota factory which is a world leading manufacturing facility.
All pupils enjoyed the day and are looking forward to the next pathways and Aim higher trips.
