On the 21st of March, Sparks pupils were excited to welcome local author Frank-Cottrell Boyce, on his much anticipated return visit to Woodchurch high School. Frank, whose recent achievements include fame as the writer for the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony and for sequels to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, regaled pupils with tales of meeting the Queen, his Olympic adventures and also read an excerpt from his book ‘Framed’ which the pupils had been studying.
‘Framed,’ based on a true story set in Snowdonia, made the shortlist for both the Carnegie and the Whitbread childrens book awards. Mr Cottrell-Boyce adapted it as a screenplay in 2009 for a BBC television film.
In honour of the occasion Sparks pupils treated Mr Cottrell-Boyce to a celebration morning, setting the scene with props from the story, including a cafe with home-made cakes.
Success was also marked by a photographer from the Liverpool Echo ,who covered the event, with a report also to be found in the local Wirral Globe.
