This is a project using our own farm resources. Year 8 Pupils went out to do several 30 second sketches of the hens and the cockerel to see how they were formed and how they move. This gave them a starting point for a ceramic piece of work.

They worked in pairs generally and learnt the basics of how we begin to build a structure in clay. They saw how the body is formed and how to build out the head and tail and then began to follow their sketches to complete the form. They really enjoyed it and it raised their attainment levels noticeably as well as their focus and motivation.

They will continue with this next lesson understanding how to add to and build onto their existing piece. They will then be allowed to dry before bisque firing them in our new kiln. After this they will learn to apply glaze before a final firing.
