Thursday the 22nd November saw an excited buzz with the Learning Resource Centre as former professional footballer Eric Nixon led an inspiring workshop with our Year 8 Premier League Reading Star Pupils. Eric’s career spanned over 22 years thirteen of which were spent at Tranmere Rovers where he still holds the goalkeeping record of 25 clean sheets (the most clean sheets is a season).

Pupils enthusiastically fired questions to Eric with regards to his career, Wembley appearances and also his fascinating autobiography Big Hands, Big Heart.

“He is amazing, he told me with effort, hard work on the pitch and in the classroom that I should follow my dream to play at Wembley.” Joe.

Pupils are currently pairing their passion for football with improving their literacy skills and their performance is to date is a credit to all their hard work and determination to succeed. Eric’s visit was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the scheme’s half way point and we look forward to our next challenge... Tranmere Rovers player visit in December!
