On Friday 13 January we were delighted to welcome Esther McVey, MP for Wirral West who had been invited to meet members of the School Council. The 10 Year 7 to 11 pupils were elected by other Form Reps; they run half-termly Year Council meetings then meet with Ms Phillips at School Council to represent the views of pupils in their year group.

Esther was keen to find out about our School Council and discussed a number of issues raised by both the pupils and herself. She was interested to find out why pupils had wanted to be on the School Council and heard from them about their wish for school to have a sixth form and how they would like the opportunity to meet up with School Councils from other Wirral secondary schools. Some of the older pupils expressed concerns about the increase in tuition fees. Esther said she had enjoyed meeting the group and was impressed with what the School Council does. She encouraged them to organise and run events and campaigns that will make a difference to issues that are close to their hearts.
