Our year 7 SPARKS “Successful Partnership Attacking Reading Skills and Knowledge Skills” Group has been excited this term to welcome 14 Buddies from year 9 who are volunteering their time before school and during one registration to support our Year 7 SPARKS readers. This venture has been a huge hit and it is wonderful to see pupils working together to share in their enthusiasm for reading.

As an end of year treat we are excited to welcome local Liverpool novelist and screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce who will be joining SPARKS for a workshop around his latest book “The Forgotten Coat”. Frank Cottrell Boyce has scripted the Oscar-nominated Hilary and Jackie and the Danny Boyle picture Millions, but remains best known for his six films in collaboration with director Michael Winterbottom, including the acclaimed 24-Hour Party People and A Cock and Bull Story. We are sure that he will receive an extremely warm welcome and be impressed with the passion for reading that our pupils radiate.
