Last weekend a group of Year 10 BTEC Health and Social Care pupils, Ms Oldham, Miss McIver, Mr Heydon and Mrs Reevell spent a fantastic weekend at Oaklands Outdoor Education Centre, North Wales. The opportunity to take part in challenging activities helped them develop their communication skills and understanding of risk assessments. Ably assisted by co-ordinators Nick and Tom Saturday morning was spent rock climbing and abseiling. Despite the fact that the rock face was sheer and about 40 feet high almost everyone had a go and made it to the top and down again safely. By lunchtime the weather had deteriorated significantly and we certainly needed our fleeces, waterproofs and wellies for the afternoon’s canoeing on the lake.
There were competitions between pupils in the 2 boats and lots of fun in the water. Sunday was spent gorge walking, a real challenge due to the amount of rain that had fallen the day before but with great teamwork everyone made it safely up the gorge and enjoyed getting drenched by the waterfall. We returned exhausted but with a lot of great memories.
