Induction Day / Evening

Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to thank you for your commitment to ensuring a smooth transition to secondary school. I am now pleased to share with you the full details of our Induction Day and Induction Evening programme.

Wednesday 1st July

As you are aware, Induction Day will take place on Wednesday 1st July. It is an exciting milestone, and we remain committed to making the transition to secondary school as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Our induction day has been carefully planned to help pupils feel welcomed and confident in their new surroundings. Throughout the day, they will have the opportunity to meet their new Form Tutor and key members of staff, take part in engaging taster lessons, and explore the school. The aim is to ensure that every child finishes the day feeling more familiar with our school environment and excited about starting in September.

We understand that transition can bring a mixture of emotions, and our extended pastoral leadership team will be on hand to offer support and reassurance throughout the day. Our Year 7 Ambassadors and Year 10 Acting Prefects will also be available to share their own experiences and help new pupils settle in.

The arrangements for the day are as follows:

  • Arrival: pupils should arrive at 9.15am and enter through the main entrance on Carr Bridge Road, and via the reception area where they will be met and greeted by staff and pupils on duty.
  • Uniform: we require pupils to wear their primary school uniform, so they feel comfortable.
  • Lunch: a free school meal will be provided, or pupils may bring a packed lunch if preferred.
  • Collection: the day will conclude at 3.00pm, and pupils can be collected from the main entrance, or make their way home as arranged with you. We do ask that you do not park on Carr Bridge Road, as this causes congestion and disruption to bus services and pupils requiring transport.

Induction Evening for Parents/ Carers

Induction Evening is designed to welcome you, parents/carers, to our school community and provide essential information to ensure a smooth transition. During the evening, you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s Form Tutor, and learn about our school’s expectations, as well as the support available for your child/ward’s academic and personal development. The information you will receive on this evening is more suited to Parents/ Carers, however, if childcare is an issue, we will accommodate your child/ ward in attending with you.

The evening will be held on either Wednesday 1st July for pupils in X Band form groups, or Thursday 2nd July for pupils in Y Band form groups. An email will follow to confirm which form your child has been allocated, so you know which evening to attend. The evening will begin promptly at 5.00pm and finish at approximately 6.00pm.

The evening will also be attended by ‘Design & Stitch Schoolwear’ so you will have the opportunity to buy / order uniform items, if you choose to. Further details of our uniform can be found here.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase a Casio FX-83GTCW+ Scientific Calculator for £9.62 and also purchase basic equipment – A clear pencil case, with a black biro, purple biro, pencil, ruler and rubber for £1.50, ready for September. Please bring cash if you wish to purchase these items.

Induction Evening for Parents/ Carers

I do hope you will join us because it is our policy to see all parents/carers before their child joins the school, even those who may already have children in the school. This is part of our school commitment to developing a trusting home school partnership which ensures that your child is able to fulfil their potential, both socially and academically.
A reminder that our transition page on the front of the school website remains a central place for the most up-to-date information. By sharing key updates here, we aim to keep communication clear and manageable for families, ensuring that important information is easy to find and released at the appropriate time.
We look forward to meeting you and working together to support your child’s journey with us.

If you have any questions or concerns about the Induction Day or Induction Evening, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way, and we look forward to welcoming them to Woodchurch High School.
