Green Flag

On Friday 5 December Ian Collins from the EcoSchools programme spent most of the day in school to assess us for the Green Flag, the highest environmental award for schools. Ian met the 12 members of the Go4Green group who told him about the great progress that had been made on topics such as recycling, litter, energy, water, and biodiversity. The pupils then took him on a tour of the school where he saw for himself the wind turbine, solar panels, water-saving toilets and taps, recycling bins, compost, facilities and the bike shed full of bikes. Ian was particularly impressed with the school farm where he was introduced to our hens, sheep and goats.

In the letter telling us we had been successful the assessor wrote “I would like to congratulate you for all the time and effort that has been invested in environmental education at your school. Your award is well deserved and reflects the hard work you have put into the programme.”

A special thank you goes to all the pupils on the Go4Green Committee for their tremendous enthusiasm and commitment. The Green Flag will soon be hung with pride from the flag pole!
