Although Woodchurch High is a Trust School, our admission arrangements are administered by the Local Education Authority. Full details of the admission arrangements are outlined in the publication “A Guide to Secondary Transfer in Wirral” which is issued to all parents of primary school pupils in the year before transfer. In September 2010 Woodchurch will have an admission number of 279 pupils.
For parents unable to attend our Open Evening / Day, appointments can always be made to visit the school and receive additional information. The procedure for the transfer of pupils from primary school begins in September when parents are asked to visit local Secondary Schools and to indicate their school preference by mid October. Places are allocated later in the year. As a Comprehensive School we cater successfully for children of all abilities, including the most able, which is clearly demonstrated by our examination results and recognised by OFSTED.
“Gifted and Talented pupils are clearly identified and given additional challenges to ensure that they make very good progress.”

In the Summer Term prior to transfer, steps are taken to ease the transition from primary to secondary school. Our pupils will be visited in their primary school by staff from Woodchurch High School. Where there are pupils with additional needs or medical and physical impairments, the School’s Co-ordinator for Additional Needs will also be involved. Pupils are also invited to spend time at Woodchurch High School towards the end of the Summer Term prior to admission. This time is spent getting to know some of the staff with whom they will be associated in September, touring their new school and taking part in sample lessons.
“Year 7 pupils settle into secondary school quickly and easily, because of the very good arrangements to help them. They are well prepared during Years 5 and 6, and have many opportunities to visit and become involved in activities in the school. Despite coming from many different primary schools, young pupils very quickly become absorbed into the school family, and their pride and loyalty is evident.”

Where parents wish pupils to be admitted at times other than at the beginning of the first year of secondary school, they are asked to contact the Headteacher’s secretary who will arrange for them to meet a Deputy Head or the Head of Pastoral Welfare. It will also be necessary to contact the Education Office (Pupil Administration Section).
